AM went back to start packing, but I wasn't ready to give up my last daylight hours here for that- there would be time for that when it got dark out!
So I took another walk down the road, this time cutting through the olive grove. There were beehives at the top of the grove- this is where they harvested the honey from! I steered clear of them, but thought it was really cool!
The olive grove is terraced to accommodate the steep slope.
It just looks so neat!
Younger olive trees springing from the root base of an older one... like an olive fairy ring!
One last walk down the dusty road...
...past the vineyards.
I ran into the Kansas students and got to talk to them for a while...
...and inspected their handiwork on the dry laid stone walls!
*sigh* - it's just so beautiful here!
On my way back up the hill, I heard a bunch of noise coming from the olive grove...sheep!
They're such funny-looking animals. Like big grass-eating machines. They've got a big ribcage, a head on a neck that seems permanently bent down towards the ground, and not much else.
A few of them decided they wanted to rest under the trees for a bit.
The rest continued munching and mowing and walking along...
Finally the other three decided they didn't want to get left behind, so they came running to catch up to the group!
What a beautiful day.
What a beautiful week!
What a way to celebrate turning 30!
Thanks, AM and T! I'm so glad we came here!
...of course the trip's not over! Next stop, Mykonos! :)
