Sometimes it's the details that are worth remembering...sometimes it's the details that are important to leave out! Someday I'll learn to tell the difference. :)

Asciano
We wandered into town, to do a bit of exploring, find a grocery store for things that weren't harvested at Spannocchia (like orange juice) and get something to eat.
The guidebook had said that Asciano is not really a touristy town, and it was right- although there were still a fair share of shops selling postcards and such! Sometimes I prefer exploring the "real" places to the tourist attractions. Granted, there's generally a reason that they're not famous- or really, no distinguishing factor to be famous, but they also don't have the "Disneyfied" quality to them, and you get to hang out with local people, not just more American tourists!
Asciano is a cute little town. I really enjoyed wandering through its streets!
Many of the buildings were stone - this one looks like travertine - and they like tacking flowerpots onto the sides of the buildings, not just as windowboxes, but apparently wherever they thought it needed some dressing up!
These two pictures were taken across the street from a Basilica, as the sign so clearly states:
...I think there should be a spot on North Charles Street in Baltimore where we could put a similar sign! ;)
We never went inside, but the Basilica had a cool bell tower, and a very wistful statue in front.
The Caribinieri have a great early 20th century Modern building...
...and speaking of cool early Modern buildings, check out this grain silo!
This little town has a great view of the surrounding hillsides, as you can see behind the smiling AM and T!
We stopped and had a cappuccino and/or gelato at a little outdoor cafe- ah, this is the life! We're here! In Italy! On vacation! How cool is this?! :)
...check out the little spatula I was given to eat my gelato with- isn't it cute?
Doesn't AM look so perfectly at home here?
Yeah, we're having a great time!
Proesli, Herr Hoesli!
